TRON Energy Price Explained: SUN, Rental Rates & Burn Price
Every few days someone asks me: 'why does the energy price keep changing?' The short answer is that energy is a market — but a market with a government-set ceiling, which makes it behave unlike most crypto markets.
In this guide I'll explain how SUN pricing works, where the burn price comes from, and how to read rental quotes like a pro.
TRON energy is priced in SUN (1,000,000 SUN = 1 TRX). The official burn price is ~100 SUN/energy; rental marketplaces quote 24–74 SUN/energy depending on duration and platform. Lower SUN means cheaper transfers.
SUN: the unit of energy pricing
Energy prices are quoted in SUN, the smallest TRX unit (1 TRX = 1,000,000 SUN). When a marketplace says '26 SUN', they mean 26 SUN per energy unit. Multiply by the energy your transfer needs — 65,000 — and divide by 1,000,000 to get the TRX cost: 26 × 65,000 / 1,000,000 = 1.69 TRX.

The burn price: the ceiling
The official burn price — currently about 100 SUN/energy — is the rate at which the network converts your TRX into energy when your pool is empty. It's set by network parameters and changes occasionally through governance.
Think of it as a price ceiling: nobody would rent energy above the burn price, because you could just burn TRX instead. That's why every rental quote in the market sits below 100 SUN.
Why rental prices vary so much
In our latest manual survey of 18 platforms, 1-hour rental quotes ranged from 26 to 74 SUN/energy. Why so wide? Three reasons: (1) platforms source energy from different staking pools, (2) some bundle customer support and reliability into the price, (3) 24-hour rentals are usually cheaper per energy than 1-hour because of lower overhead.
