TRON uses Delegated Proof of Stake: TRX holders vote for 27 Super Representatives, who take turns producing blocks every ~3 seconds. This design yields ~2,000 TPS, fast finality, and the cheap, predictable fees USDT users enjoy.
What DPoS means
In Delegated Proof of Stake, token holders don't validate directly. They vote for a small set of delegates — on TRON, exactly 27 'Super Representatives' — who then produce blocks on a schedule. Think of it as electing a board to run the network.
Voting power comes from frozen TRX. The more you freeze and vote, the more influence you have.
The 27 Super Representatives
The 27 SRs take turns producing blocks in a ~3-second cycle. They earn block rewards, which many share with voters (your 'staking APY'). SRs can be voted out, so they stay responsive — at least in theory.
